Who we are

The Virginia Tiered Systems of Supports aligns academics, behavior and social-emotional wellness into a single decision-making framework to establish the supports needed for schools to be effective learning environments for all students. We partner with school divisions throughout the Commonwealth to support the successful implementation of the framework.

More Professional Learning!

This summer, be sure to join VTSS for training events that will enrich you just in time for the 2019-2020 school year!
Defusing Disruptive Behavior, which will be held in Charlottesville, Virginia from August 5-6, is open to all school divisions, and will help you learn to understand the behaviors and patterns of students who struggle in school. Learn more about and register for Defusing Disruptive Behaviors.
Advanced Tiers Forum, held on July 16-18 in Charlottesville, is designed for all school teams who have completed Tier 1 training and have a TFI implementation score of 70 or more. Talk to your Division Coordinator and VTSS Systems Coaches about whether this event is right for your team. Learn more about and register for Advanced Tiers Forum.

Formed Families Forward Videos

In partnership with Formed Families Forward, a community parent resource center, the VTSS produced a set of three brief training videos designed for wide use by educator and family audiences. The videos focus on building trauma awareness, responding to trauma and traumatic stress, and supporting trauma-sensitive schools.  Check out our Community resources page for the link to the videos and related resources.

Effective Classroom Systems

Division leadership teams and school leadership teams, including building principals, are invited to attend. Divisions may want to consider extending invitations to division level staff charged with ongoing professional learning in classroom instructional and/or behavioral practices. It is recommended that participating schools wishing to attend have completed Tier 1 Professional Learning for school-wide practices (i.e. the Tier 1 Forum). Please contact your VTSS Systems Coach should you need additional guidance.

Advanced Tiers Forum

The Advanced Tiers Forum is designed for school teams that have completed Tier I training, and are implementing with a TFI Tier I score of 70 or more. School teams should select one strand to attend as a team. Teams registering for the Advanced Tier Forum should talk with their Division Coordinator and VTSS Systems Coaches and use this "Decision Tree" to discern participation in this event.

Tier 1 Forum

This three-day event is designed to facilitate team learning and planning around Universal or Tier 1 implementation of the Virginia Tiered System of Supports. Division leadership teams and school leadership teams, inclusive of building principals, are invited to attend. This year, the Tier 1 Forum will have four concurrent “strands” to accommodate the needs of your division and schools. Division Leadership Teams should collaborate with their VTSS Systems Coaches to identify the most appropriate strand and who should attend.

Defusing Disruptive Behavior

Anchored to core features of the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) and reflective of the effective responses flowchart, Defusing Disruptive Behavior focuses on understanding the behaviors of students who struggle in school. This event is for all school divisions. Division- and school-based leadership teams and selected teacher leaders will learn to support students more effectively in the classroom through the use of evidence-based strategies.
