Tier 1 Forum
July 31, 2018 - August 2, 2018
This two- or three-day event (based on your choice of Strand – see below) is designed to facilitate team learning and planning around Universal or Tier 1 Virginia Tiered System of Supports – Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (VTSS-PBIS) practices. Division leadership teams and school leadership teams, including building principals, are invited to attend.
This year, the Tier 1 Forum will have three concurrent “strands” to accommodate the needs of your division and schools. Division Leadership Teams should collaborate with their VTSS Systems Coaches to identify the most appropriate strand and who should attend.
Who Should Attend Each Strand?
Strand 1 – Professional Learning for New Teams
This three day event is best for those school teams and division support personnel who are new to VTSS-PBIS implementation. It is appropriate for schools or divisions to send new team members of an existing team if a learning partner accompanies them from the team who is familiar with the current level of implementation. For a more detailed understanding of the content covered in the Tier 1 Forum, please read an Excerpt from Tier 1 Workbook .
Strand 2 – Booster Session Enhanced with Trauma Sensitive Practices
This three day event is best for those school teams and division support personnel who have already attended the Tier 1 professional learning for new teams and have had experience implementing Tier 1 behavior practices. It is designed to help school teams identify how to build a Trauma Sensitive School (TSS) within a multi-tiered system of support framework. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of the prevalence of trauma and evaluate the impact it may have on their educational community.
Using a function-based lens for implementation, participants of this workshop will recognize how a school may incorporate trauma-sensitive practices at the Tier 1 level in data-informed decision making, professional development, behavioral expectations, routines and procedures as well as feedback and acknowledgement.
Strand 3 – Booster Session Enhanced with Culturally Responsive Practices
This opportunity is best for those school teams and division support personnel, who have already attended the Tier 1 professional learning for new teams, have had experience implementing Tier 1 behavior practices and believe cultural responsiveness is a priority for ensuring student growth and success. This two-day event (July 31st and August 1st) is designed to help school teams address issues of equity by utilizing the VTSS-PBIS framework. Participants will analyze cultural responsiveness within their school’s culture and explore ways to strengthen and support the equitable educational experience of every student. The workshop will help participants build skills to initiate and facilitate discussions designed to build a school culture in which every one is heard, valued, and empowered.
