The Systems Coaching 102 series is designed to build upon Systems Coaching 101. This 3-day series will focus on building and sustaining a system for coaching within divisions. The series emphasizes the importance of setting the climate and culture for coaching, ensuring essential knowledge, skills and abilities of effective coaching and installing key systemic components for coaching in order to support the sustained implementation of VTSS within schools.

Session A

During this initial one day session of Systems Coaching 102, division coaches will understand the why of building a coaching system, apply the essential components that build and sustain a culture of coaching, understand coaching assumptions and types of coaching, and apply knowledge of VTSS core content and tools to building of a coaching system. Participants will begin to conceptualize and build a system for coaching within their division.

Session B

During this one-day session of Systems Coaching 102, division coaches will continue to enhance the learning and experiences of Session A through closer examination of supporting coaching skills. Participants will understand and apply the following coaching skills: people skills, courageous conversations, facilitating effective and productive data meetings, coaching skills practice opportunities, and tools to help facilitate feedback. Through the use of modeling difficult scenarios, division coaches will gain skills and confidence through framing questions.

Learning Intentions

Participants will:

  • Identify the people skills necessary to effectively do the work of a systems coach.
  • Analyze and strengthen communication skills through application and practice.
  • Select and practice communication skills when participating in challenging conversations.

Session C

During this final one-day session of Systems Coaching 102, participants will dive deeper into the components of a coaching system. Participants will enhance their capacity to effectively coach, develop guidance documents, apply best practices in selection and hiring practices of coaches, and develop effective coaching plans. Also, participants will understand the importance of evaluating current coaching supports, and alignment of existing coaching structures.

  • Improve ability to engage in critical conversations around VTSS implementation
  • Facilitate the development of a documented division-wide system/culture of coaching
